Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

....long time passing.....
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass
the grass witherth, and the flower thereof falleth away; But the word of the Lord endureth for ever
                                                                                                                           I Peter 1:24 25...

..Young girls picked them every one..........

ROSE-BUD

THE FLOWER VASE

I no believe that unto thee
Truth, honor, plain sincerity
are jewels far before
all that the others think are dear
and yet far more than they I fear
Because I love thee more.

And yet I hope, because I love
With thoughts that set thee far above
Vain Fortune's glittering store;
Others may deem thou canst be won
By things that sparkle in the sun;
But oh! I love thee more!

If you save flowers and leaves during the Summer months.....

You can enjoy them throughout the Winter time and beyond

Gathering buds up early in the day,
when the buds are at their peek
helps them to be preserved the best

One way to use certain flowers
like Marigolds is for Natural Dye

Some plants are good for Teas or Medicinal Herbs for the "Apothecary"

There are so many beautiful books available to inspire great ideas
for the home or for gifts

There are many ways to preserve the outdoor living works of the Hands of the Lord
Hanging  them to air dry is one way

Using a colander or sifter  placed in a warm dry place...

for a while to air dry.....

creates  a beautiful fragrant
masterpiece to enjoy during the winter
months and beyond

 There are many lovely ways
 to make Handmade Gifts

My Aunt Karin made these
three Cherished Hand Crocheted
Potpourris using pretty shaped canning jars

Pressing Fresh Flowers and Leaves
is one of  my very favorite things to do

It is very easy to do. It is nice if you have Special Tools, but pressing flowers between or under heavy Books will accomplish the same effect! (be sure to use absorbent paper towels between the pages to protect your book)

Pressed Flowers create
 long lasting cherished gifts!

 a great learning site:

The largest picture is from
a late friend who took up
Flower and Leaf Pressing
as an Art in her NINETIES!

"Never stop creating" !!

AH SUNFLOWER

Ah Sunflower! weary of time
Who countest the steps of the Sun,
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller's journey is done;

Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow
Arise from their graves and aspire
Where my Sunflower wishes to go.

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-Flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day,
To-morrow will be dying.

WRITE A LETTER or in a JOURNAL with an Old Fashiond DIP PEN

How long has it been since any of us has sat down
 to write a real letter?
Many do not even send out Christmas cards anymore!
To receive a hand written letter in the Post is pure JOY!

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth  sure,
having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are His   II                                                                                                                                                           Timothy: 2:19..

It's quite enjoyable to own family heirlooms or collect
unique old pieces from treasure hunts

Wax sealing goes back to ancient times
It adds a very old fashioned lovely touch

It is a very pleasurable experience writing with a Dip Pen. Just imagine
Jane Austen wrote ALL her books with one (or perhaps a Feather Quill)!

Please don't tell BUTTERCUP that we took some of her FEATHERS!

Also Jonathan David's Uncle was a counsellor,
 a wise man, and a scribe: I Chronicles 27:32..

Here is a nice example of dip pen writing from days gone by  from a                                        cherished inherited "Autograph Book"
Belonging to J. Fredrick Smith 1880
(my HubbyBear's Grandfather)

This is an extraordinary autograph written by a good friend of  J. Fredrick
(little would he imagine that his lovely poem would be posted for many to see on day)!

We may write our names in albums
We may trace them in the sand
We may chisel them in marble
With a firm and skillful hand
But the pages soon are sullied
Soon each name will fade away
                                                     Every moment will crumble
                                                     Like all earthly hopes decay
But dear friend there is an album
Full of leaves of snowy white
Where no name is ever tarnished
                                                     But forever pure and bright
In that book of life God's album
May your name be penned with care
And may all who here have written
                                                     Have their names forever there
                                                         ..~.~.~.~.~.~..

My Great Grandmother Mary Hawkins kept a Prayerful Journal
How Honored I am to have it

The smudges on the pages are from tears wept over the loss of her only (child) son
from Tuberculosis at  the age of  42

For this is a covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after
those days, saith the Lord;
I will put my laws into their mind,
and write them their hearts;
Hebrews 8:10...
