A Butterfly Invasion........ Pure Paradise !

Clouds of red admiral butterflies .....

                                                               from the South...

arrived  in Western NY in the last few weeks.......

They are everywhere!!

They seem to be having  great fun!!

But oops! Who is this party crasher?
(Eastern Comma)

Can you see them all over the tree limbs?
 I counted 29!

May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
                                   an Irish Blessing

It is pure Paradise sharing in their celebration!!

And inspires to
give thanks to the Maker...

Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts:
the whole earth is full of his glory.
                                                              Isaiah 6:3

Therefore if anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creation;
the old things have passed away;
behold, new things have come.

                                    2 Cor 5:17

They makes me want to sketch

Butterflies get along famously with the Mousiekin Family

Sebastien was surprised to receive a Butterfly Kiss!!

 Watch area NEWS:

BUFFALO, N.Y. - We have heard the stories of our mild winter and early spring bringing out an early invasion of ants, flies and bees. Well, now, a new airborne twist.
Over the weekend, a strong warm front blew in from the south, and with it, a large mass of Red Admiral Butterflies. Wayne Gall, Regional Entomologist for the New York State Department of Health, says that the last time he remembers this type of butterfly in Western New York was about 15 years ago.
The Red Admiral is a migratory butterfly that winters over. They're typically found to our south, but the combination of a mild spring around much of the country and the winds of the weekend warm front have given us a rare chance to see this species.
Gall says that the Red Admiral poses no threat to vegetation, the caterpillars don't even feed on garden variety plants.

  4. I love butterflies, but I have never seen so many in one place at one time. I couldn't help but smile when I saw that Sebastian Mouskin received his "butterfly kiss." :)

  5. It is so lovely to see their migration and to be part of it. Here in the Eastern side of PA, we have been visited quite regularly, especially here in the cottage, by their beauty.

    Spring is so beautiful.

Thank you for sharing Linnie :)

  7. Linnie, Good heavens, a Butterfly invasion has got to be a treat. The only invasions we get are legions of Lady bugs!
Wonderful sketch! You have so many talents.
Dimity Doormouse sends her regards to the Mousekins and wishes them a marvelous month of May!

  11. This was one of the most amazing things! I only wish I could have seen it alive and up close.
    Thank you for posting it.

  12. Dear Linnie,

That's the best kind of invasion I can imagine! We've had lots of Painted Ladies here, but nothing like yours. I imagine there will be lots of them dying of "natural causes" that you could add to a nature collection!

Thanks for reminding me that I wanted to get those Beatrix Potter art books; she was amazing, indeed! And so are you, sketching so well. :)

    Love,

    Marqueta

  13. Thank you for sharing this bounty ; a true 'flock' winged beauty. I wonder what the catepillars look like,
do you remember seeing alot of them?
I love their name too. Country names for our nature friends are so interesting and I bet this name has an interesting history.
    Best

  14. LINNIE DEAR!!!!!!!!!

Oh how I love your account of you being your FATHER'S DAUGHTER! Well, I have to say that I TOO am my father's daughter in the sense that I LOOK JUST LIKE HIM, I have his temperment and also his creativity. I look NOTHING like my mother at all, but I am pure PELAYO, my father's family name.

Thank God for our parents. Unfortunately, when some of us are young, we do not see the value of having these wise adults in our lives. It isn't until long past our youth that we can see what they did for us and mean to us still. OH MAYBE heaven will be that place where what we missed on earth we shall receive in full. WHO KNOWS!!!!

BIG HUGS TO YOU and wishes on Mothers' Day for love love LOVE! Anita

  15. Sweet Linnie!
How blessed you are! Those butterflies are absolutely gorgeous...and your sketched rendering is BEAUTIFUL! I am so glad you came for a "visit" to the barn sale...They're already making plans for the fall show. So I am busy at Aunt Marguerite's table in the sunroom, working on finishing Pick-a Pick-a Pumpkin:)) Hard thinking of fall colors when it is so green and spring outdoors. A batch of Carolina Wrens have just hatched in the wreath right outside a sunroom window! to hear their little chirps while waiting for mommy bird, is the most precious sound in all the world.
I miss you sweet girl, and wish we could visit someday soon...I will keep praying and God will know the desires of our hearts...one of these days, kindred sister, one of these days:)
Much love and hugs and kissies, and a happy happy mother's day to you,
    Christie

  17. If I see a butterfly through the kitchen window while I'm washing dishes I'll dry my hands and head for the camera. Usually it has moved on by then. It would be exciting to see so many. How marvelous.

  19. Dear Linnie,

The same time you posted this I saw some of the same butterflies flitting about our acreage, but not near as many as you had! Your sketch of the visiting butterfly is just lovely! The photographs of the Mousiekins with the butterflies look enchanting!

    Your friends,
