Of a' the airts the wind can blaw,
      I dearly like the west,
For there the bonnie lassie lives,
      The lassie I lo'e best:
There wild woods grow, and rivers row,
      And monie a hill between;
But day and night may fancy's flight
      Is ever wi' my Jean.

I see her in the dewy flowers,
I see her sweet and fair:
I hear her in the tunefu' birds,
I hear her charm the air:
There's not a bonnie flower that springs
      By fountain, shaw, or green;
There's not a bonnie bird that sings,
But minds me o' my Jean.

18 Behold that which I have seen:
It is good and comely for one to eat and drink,
and enjoy the good of all his labor
that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life,
which God giveth him: for his portion.

19 Every man also to whom God hath given
riches and wealth, and hath given him power
to eat thereof, and to take his portion,
a to rejoice in his labor; this is the gift

20 For he shall not much remember the
days of his life; because God answereth
him in the joy of his heart
 Ecclesiastes 4:18-20

How fading are the joys we dote upon!
Like apparitions seen and gone.
But those that soonest take their flight
are those most exquisit and strong-
Like angels' visits, short and bright ,
Mortality's too week to bear them long.

  6. Linnie, I really enjoyed your blog. I love the clothing from this era. My husband has always said that he thought I was born a few years too late.
Love the sewing machine and the busy little mice.

  7. Beautiful costumes! I'm not a designer and I can't sew, but I appreciate clothes as works of art.

  8. I love this kind of clothing. Occasionally, we do art shows with a traditional theme and are required to dress in Colonial clothing, which I love. I have some marvelous outfits, right down to my shoes and stockings. But my husband just hates to do it, although I think he looks quite dashing in his "button up the front" breeches and dropped blousy sleeves with vest!
If ever I do a show up your way, I will let you know.

  10. Linnie, I just went back to your beekeeping post because I am getting serious about my own little apiary this year. I am very excited about it. I do hope your bees are doing fine!
Also, I saw your wonderful little sheep-roving critters that you made, how sweet they are!
