A Day at the Old Time Fiddler's Fair at the G.C.V.& M Aug 2015 and Fibre Fest!!

If you ever plan a visit to the Genesee County Village & Museum
you may want to choose to
go during their August
Old Time Fiddler's Festival !

And if you bring along an
instrument you and a guest
will be let in for free!!

It was GREAT FUN,
and I brought along my banjo!

I greatly enjoyed jamming with
this group of
talented musicians!

Every where you walk and look there is
wonderful old time-traditional music
to hear and behold!!

There were also other wonderful
traditional skills  and craft
demonstrations among the beautiful
grounds on a most perfect beautiful day!

One thing that particularly caught my attention
were the many wonderful examples
of many different stages of old time
fibre processing through out the village!

Natural dyers....

(all hand~spun, naturally dyed)!

...cochineal

indigo...

Weavers..

and spinners...

and Rug Hookers

  1. Oh, what a fun event!! The GVC is a great place to visit, but even more so with fiddle music and fiber arts. : ) Your spinning wheel is lovely. I enjoy spinning, but haven't found time for it over the past few years- maybe this winter!

  4. Looks like a lot of fun! I love the yarn! I would want to buy some of every color....it might inspire me to learn to knit! And those hook rugs! Gorgeous! I would have LOVED to see you do a little picking! :)

  5. Dearest Linnie ~ wow! I am all weak at my knees just looking at all the wonderful colours on those yarns and in the crafts, especially the rag rug making. A gentleman from the National Wool Museum was there using the same type of wheel you have. Sadly, I was on my way to a meeting and running late so could not stop. He will be there again.
Such a wonderful, fun day out with all the craft and music. What instrument did you take? Did you have a go on the {are they} zithers?
Heartfelt thanks to you for sharing this magical day out! ~~~Deb xoxo

  6. Oh Linnie,as I am looking at all the photos of the people enjoying themselves, the thought occurred to me how GOD is so good. He has given us the opportunity as a human race to DISCOVER the art of creativity, problem-solving, invention for necessity, creation for happiness. He is the best teacher to ever exist, and we His "students" learn each day as we test our skills and produce with our hands. What a great community of people you belong to, who cherish what seems simple in this culture of big industry, but what truly shines. AND that the Mouskins too enjoy their spinning and baking and housekeeping is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUN! Tea Rat agrees that spinning your own cloth (though he wears NO clothing) is a capital idea. How he's love to sip a cup with them, and I with YOU!

    LOTS OF LOVE, LINNIE! Anita

  7. Dear Linnie, I just loved my visit to the wonderful fair! How nice to meet all the talented craftsman. The hand dyed yarns are such beautiful colors. The hooked rugs are certainly one of my favorites and reminds me to start a project. Your spinning wheel is just amazing, Linnie and I love that the Mousiekin ladies enjoy spinning also. Have a wonderful week! xoxo ♥

  8. I love the pottery show in the video. The place is a real gem to have nearby--on the order of Sturbridge Village! I also loved the rugs. I'm going to take a class later this month, I hope, at a nearby library. I'd like to make some miniature hooked rugs for my dollhouse. I loved seeing your Mousiekin Ladies busy at their dyeing and spinning!

  11. Hey banjo player, I really like your outfit! Fiber festivals are my very favorite to participate in what with all the babydoll sheep, angora goats and every wondrous bit of fiber crafts one could hope for. It is a cozy type of a show to attend and exhibit in. Do you love to dye things? I do... I dye wool, corn husks, yarn, fabric, ribbon and eggs! You have a walking Wheel just like mine...but I am a lousy spinner and you seem to be quite adept at it.

  12. I loved seeing all your beautiful photos Linnie, and it always brings a smile to see the Mousiekin little ones. I'm sorry I've neglected you as of late. My spirit has been low, but I'm seeing light in the tunnel now.....blessings dear friend ♡♡♡

  13. What a feast for ears and eyes. We have a small fiber arts day here in Lancaster, PA. I missed it this year. I like your long claret-colored dress, Linnie. Glad you had good time.

I particularly liked seeing the woven plaid blanket unusual with its embroidered flowers in the squares. And a cheddar (I'm learning the names for civil war colors) and blue colored tartan caught my eye.

Your walking wheel is grand. It seems to belong just where it is situated - as if it has been in that spot for a long, long time and never been moved from it.

Everyone looks as if they are having a grand time... The hand dyed fibers are such beautiful colors... Thank you so much for sharing!

Oh! Almost forgot... Thank you so much for visiting and leaving such a sweet note for me! I always enjoy seeing you there.
    blessings,
    Penny
