PLAIN~ AROUND THE YEAR~

This is my neighborhood
with some of our friends.
I thought that you would enjoy
what HubbyBear and I are
blessed to regularly see !

     "~PLAIN ~ AROUND THE YEAR~"

My summer has an end
And the mourning I might spend
My autumn days; but happily I know
Beyond this vale of time
A never changing climb
No autumn there, no winter storms
that blow.
           ~Amish hymn~

Stay golden hour, oh stay thy fleeting
For ne're returns so fair a scene
The mellow moonlight's softly sleeping
All around us in silvery sheen
                                   ~Mennonite writings~

Oh hasten the hour, send down from above
The spirit of power, of knowledge and of love
Of filial fear, of knowledge and grace
Of wisdom and prayer, of joy and of praise.
                                              ~Mennonite prayer~

Preside over those in your charge
with kindness and meekness,
rather than subject them to fear and terror.
An oppressor does not rule long.
                             ~Mennonite song~

..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..~..

Beloved, I wish above all things
that thou mayest prosper
and be in health,
even as thy soul prospereth.

Do good and leave behind you a moment of virtue
the storms of time can never destroy
                                   ~early Mennonite proverb~

Bid the refreshing north wind wake
Say to the south wind blow
let every plant the pow'r partake
and all the garden grow.
                    ~Amish hymn~

If thou wouldst first thank God
For each good He bestows
Thou couldst not find the time
To murmur of woes.
                              ~Amish verse~

The floweret standing by the path
And brushing 'gainst thy feet
It is, if it doth touch thy heart
From God a greeting sweet
                            ~Mennonite song~

Life is onward~ never
look upon the past;
It would hold you ever in the clutches fast.

Life is onward~ prize it
In sunshine and it's storm
Oh do not despise it
In it's humblest form.
            ~ Mennonite writings~

Be friendly to all and a burden to no one.
Let your manner be courteous, your forgiveness
willing, your promises true, and your speech wise.
                                      ~Amish proverb~

  3. Dear Linnie, I enjoyed seeing your neighbors very much! The teams of horses tilling the soil is just amazing. The laundry on the lines are beautiful--you know how I feel about that! What a great pulley line you photographed! Thank you for featuring simplicity! ♥

  4. Linnie, I love the Amish and Mennonites! I have lots of books about them and have visited several communities in IN and PA. We also have a few Amish here Western and Southern Maryland. I subscribed to their 3 magazines one year. They are wonderful writers. Are you close friends with an Amish family? I love Sue Bender's writings, too.

  5. Linnie,
What a beautiful and peaceful neighborhood you have. I had to chuckle at the later pictures of the buggies with the McDonald's in the background. Such a contrast of the two.
    Blessings,
    Suzanne

  6. Hello. I so enjoyed your lovely photos of your surroundings. I grew up in a farming community and I think nothing is prettier! I now live in a planned community in Southern California. I miss the old days. My best to you :)

  7. Good morning LINNIE! I am late, not able to get to my computer until now, but what a treat to see that there is still a serenity and far-off landscape in this country! I so enjoy the horses and other farm creatures, and even the Mousekins have a version, I see! Indeed a lovely sight my friend, to watch people carry on with the basics of hard work and reaping the benefits.

    BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

  12. I am so late reading your post, we have had Andy's parents here & I have not been on the laptop that much, sorry.
I love reading & seeing photo's of the plain people, your post is wonderful. We do not have anywhere like the Amish area's in England so your post is such a treat.
    Enjoy this wonderful day.
    Fondly Michelle

  13. Oh I do love your neighborhood, it's like stepping back in time. And the clothes hanging on the porch make me long for a clothesline. Sometimes we have horse and buggy traveling past our house, not Amish or Mennonite, just a local farmer, but I always love to see that.

  14. How lovely for you to get to live amongst all that simple beauty. It's a daily reminder of what's most important in life and to slow down a bit, is it not?

  15. The picture immediately after the
    old Mennonite proverb is beautiful
in its symmetry. Bless you for sharing the inspiring film...balm
for the soul...the simplicity and order were palpable. Sad what has been lost to "progress"...
