THE MINIATURE WORLD OF UNKY'S RAILROAD!!

I Thought that perhaps You may
like to see a miniature world,
created by my Uncle, an artist
who has been building a miniature
world for some forty years.

This is a world in miniature
of the Southern Pacific Railroad
during the 1940s until the 1970s
(from steam to diesel engine)
reproducing the area  from
the boarder of Northern California,
to Nevada, crossing the Humboldt River,
up to the High Sierra Mt ending at Battle Mt

Uncle's workshop/studio

This is an H.O.scale model train
covering an area of 22 ft x 18 ft!

ENJOY!!

Unky explaining about the building of and many details !

Much of the materials used for the scenery are from nature finds

And other details are meticulously hand painted to create
weathered and real effects

Beloved, I wish above all things
that thou mayest prosper
and be in health,
even as thy soul prospereth.

One thing that was hard to produce
in the photos was the size of  the layout,
so I found a "YouTube" video that was
very similar to Unky's railroad:

This was fun to watch as well:

The Mousiekin Family enjoy
playing with their trains too!!!

Hope you enjoyed !!!
Many Blessings

  1. Linnie, I am just amazed at all the work your uncle put into his hobby! Thank you so much for sharing this. I even had my husband and grandson over my shoulder looking. When our grandson was little we visited every model railroad museum from New England to Virginia. Who doesn't love trains? I love that Mousiekins do! ♥

  5. Linnie, as the wife of a guy who is a perfectionist at scale modeling, I am wowed by the magnitude and attention to detail of your uncle's projects; absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing what is obviously a life's work of creativity and passion.

  6. teeheee....the Mousekins mus follow suit! OHHHHH LINNIE! You have taken me back to the days of my father! He also had THE BUG and in both of the houses we lived in during my childhood, he built a pond out in the patio that had a rock waterfall and a village and a train. It was powered by a water wheel....I must write a poem about this...

Your uncle's world takes me back home. The desire for us to create is truly an indication that we are MADE IN HIS IMAGE....to create is human, to create is to bring life with our hands, and seeing your uncle's world here is such a blessing. You can see "the good old days" when this land was being moved along by trains and life maybe was a bit more simpler? Charming and gracious as always my friend. AND those mousekins...they have their own CHOO CHOO! teeehehehe...Now Tea Rat is bugging me about having his own. Oh that rat, he wants anything that moves!

Much love my dear friend. Anita

  8. Linnie my dear! Good evening! I always feel so at home when I come to visit you; there is something about upstate New York that intrigues me, and the "farm" feel to your area. And this post really rings close to my heart; I don't have any photos of my father's two inventions, but I do have film footage of his first when I was about 3 years old! Now to transfer the video to DVD or another form of updated technology! Indeed, my father loved trains and I loved BOATS - I'd play in the pond with my boats while his train ran the tracks...what fun. And yes, Tea Rat would LOVE to rid his choo-choo train with his friends.

You enjoy yourself dear one! Anita

  9. Linnie, your uncle's display is something to behold. Did he build all the buildings himself as well? I think model railroads are the guys' equivalent to our dollhouses.

  11. Hi Cathy,
    Thanks for asking!
He uses model kits and constructs and paints them!

  12. That's what I call a magical obsession! What I love the best are the buildings. The little crooked roof shingles and intentionally dilapidated structures are just fascinating to me. Women like dollhouses, men like train tracks. I will come back tomorrow for a closer look... this could take some time.

  14. Dear Linnie,
I just love this! This brings back memories of my dad and his love of H.O. trains and miniature railroads. Your uncle's work is simply amazing.. I especially like the mountain side and old weathered buildings.. What a master craftsman he is... There is so much to see here... I must come back and take another look.

Thank you dear friend, for coming over to meet Henry and leaving such a kind comment.
    blessings,
